- Virtual Private Network
The WinGate VPN allows users to connect individual computers or entire networks together as if they were on the same Local Area Network (LAN), using inexpensive public networks as a backbone. WinGate VPN supports both Site to Site and Remote Access VPNs.
- Industry Accepted Encryption Technology
WinGate VPN provides the highest level of security by using advanced encryption and authentication protocols that protect data from unauthorized access. Control connections use industry standard SSL, X509 certificates ensure node and connection identity. A 128-bit 'Twofish' cipher encrypts the data as it traverses the tunnel. IPSEC over UDP is the transport.
- NAT Traversal Support
WinGate VPN fully supports the establishment and use of a VPN through NAT based connections. This means a WinGate VPN Remote Client can connect and share resources with a WinGate VPN Server with the Remote Client IP address being translated by a NAT.
- Easy Configuration
WinGate VPN features a user-friendly interface that allows for fast, simple configuration of VPNs to host and VPNs to join. WinGate VPN can be deployed on existing equipment, with no special hardware required. This means the existing network configuration intact, maintaining familiarity and simplifying administration.
The WinGate VPN includes a packet-filtering firewall to protect the VPN gateway computer from Internet-based attacks. This feature allows gateways connected to the VPN to better protect themselves from unauthorized access, including denial of service (DOS), ping of death, port scanners, Trojans and many known Windows backdoors.
- Real-time Activity Monitoring
A network window displays real-time activity, allowing the administrator to monitor VPN connections. Easy to read screens provide a view of all VPN nodes that are connected to the VPN host.
- Customized Routes
Administrators can control which local routes are published/exported over the VPN, thereby customizing what areas of the local network are available to the rest of the virtual private network. This is in addition to the configuration and security settings in the Operating System itself, i.e. file permissions, etc. The VPN Server can even be configured with no local access rights, while allowing VPN Clients to connect through it.
- Complete Protocol Support
WinGate VPN supports routing of any IP based protocol, including TCP, UDP, ICMP and GRE.
- Full Platform Support
The WinGate VPN needs no additional or dedicated hardware, and the server can run on a variety of platforms. All current Windows versions are supported, including Windows 95, Windows 98/ME, Windows NT (Service Pack 4 or higher), Windows 2000 Pro/Server/Advanced Server and Windows XP Home and Professional.
- Concurrent VPN Connections
WinGate VPN Clients can join multiple VPNs simultaneously, while maintaining the same IP address for each virtual network it belongs to. WinGate VPN Advanced Server can host multiple VPNs while maintaining the same IP address.
- Support for Dial-up Connections
The WinGate VPN dialer supports the configuration of multiple phonebook entries. You can configure and assign access rights to each phonebook entry (called a profile). In this way you can support multiple dialup accounts, and restrict access to each account. NOTE: If deploying WinGate VPN Server on a dial-up connection we recommend a Dynamic DNS Service like DNS2Go.
- Firewall Reporting
The WinGate VPN Administrator may monitor the activity of the firewall as it displays aspects of an unsuccessful attack; such as time, source IP, source Port, destination IP, destination Port, protocol and virus information.
- Port Specification
All authenticated information is sent and received using a specific port. This reduces the number of 'open' ports available for potential security risks. Administrator may specify desired port during VPN host setup.
- NT User Database Integration
WinGate VPN utilizes the accounts that are already established within Windows NT or Windows 2000. This seamless integration with the NT User Database allows the administrator to avoid duplication of efforts by recreating accounts that already exist for the network.
- Traffic Monitor
Data traffic levels through WinGate VPN are illustrated in a graphical Traffic Monitor. Each interface (internal NIC, dial-up adapter, etc.) provides a separate report assisting in bandwidth utilization studies.
- System Messages
The WinGate VPN System Log is a feature designed to assist WinGate VPN administrators with diagnosing and fixing network-related problems. It is also used to notify administrators of any key events that occur - a license change, a detected hacking attempt etc.
- Auto Update
Periodically WinGate VPN can check whether a more recent version is available for download, allowing you to keep up with the latest WinGate VPN features and enhancements.
- RIP v2 Support
RIP (Routing Information Protocol) is a widely used protocol for managing router information within a self-contained network such as a corporate local area network or an interconnected group of such LANs. If your client machines have RIP support activated, they'll become aware that you are the gateway for routes available over the VPN.
